Unique ship breaking mechanic.

Hello there. I just wanted to discuss something I am very passionate about, that being Tiny Details Nobody Will Notice But I Care About Because I Don't See It In a Lot of Games and It's Cool, TDNWNBICABIDSIILGIC for short.... okay that was a bit dumb.

Anyway.....

In Volare, both yours and enemy space ships actually have individual part integrity, most having a body, and two wings. Each piece has it's own health, meaning if you spend a second shooting a guys left wing, and then start shooting his right, you are basically starting all over because his other wing health is full. On top of this, shooting the core of a ship is usually the best idea because this generally has less health.

But, the reason I really did all this was because I wanted to have them visually break, and I thought it looked weird if a ship's whole body became visually damaged as just the right was being hit, so I just separated it all, and now I have to draw damaged sprites for every piece... which can be a slight pain, but it's worth it.

On top of this, the light emission is also affected in a cool way.

See how the one on the right is glowing less, cool huh.

Another idea that hasn't really been applied anywhere but the boss battle for now, is that some ships will be able to survive without certain parts. I had an idea that the Deathbird would have breakable guns, but this made it way too easy.

So, thanks for reading, and if you've played, thanks even more for playing and maybe you'll have some more little details to look out for next time.
