Player Ships

Hello there, v0.1.14 just uploaded, and it's the last one I'll be doing till I come back from a bit of a break. I added a new boss (so there are technically 3 now, though the first one is kinda meh), some updated enemy behaviors, new music, new player ship tweaks and updates, and probably more including a bunch of bug fixes and such. For this dev log though, I want to talk about the player ships and what makes them different.

Volare

Up first is the classic, default, vanilla, Volare. He's pretty much just normal, normal machine guns, lasers, shields, health, speed. But, normal isn't necessarily bad, having everything reliably decent is sometimes the best. With that said he does have one special secret, his rockets have a slightly above average cool down speed.

Blue Steel

Ah Blue Steel, his focus is on heavy lasers, which is both good and bad. Since he has no machine guns, all you will get is lasers. The added benefit however is that the lasers have a very speedy cool down time, and he shoots four of them instead of the normal 2, so if you like double laser damage he may be the one for you. One last problem though is that his shields are halved... in earlier builds I used to give him no shields though, so having half is technically better, maybe. You tell me.

Spade

Spade is one of my personal favorites, and not even that I use him a whole lot, I just really like him, heh heh heh. He's pretty much the opposite of Blue Steel, with only machine guns, no lasers at all. His machine guns however, have two behaviors. First off they shoot much faster than normal ships, and unlike the other ships which aim their machine guns, he has a scatter mode which shoots even faster at the drawback of being less accurate.

His rockets also behave differently than normal, instead of higher level rockets becoming more powerful, he focuses on firing them faster, quantity over quality you could say.

One last thing is his shields, of which he has none. He relies solely on health, but he has very fast health regeneration, which makes for an intense experience.

Geschwindigkeit

Geschwindigkeit, called Geschw for short, focuses on speed. He's not your normal weak and agile one though, he can pack quite a punch. Instead of lasers, he uses EMP lasers which do very low damage, but take out shields very quickly, he also has double shields, and a high rocket resistance, so you'll be less likely to blow yourself up on accident while zipping around the screen.

Just remember, speed doesn't always equal better, it can be hard to control at times.

Razzo

And lastly we have Razzo, he focuses on rockets and, it's pretty epic. First off, he shoots two rockets at once instead of one, but keep in mind they fire at an angle, both going in different directions, so they wont be going straight in front of you. This can be helpful though, since holding down the rocket button with any ship keeps their heat seeking off till you let go. This means you can hold it down for a bit and let them get some distance from each other, before activating the heat seeking. Other than rockets, he also has a very high rocket resistance, and double shields much like Geschw.

His downfall however is that he is very slow, and his machine gun rate of fire is also low. On top of that he only fires one laser at a time instead of the regular two, however they are EMP lasers, so they are good for getting rid of enemy shields before you blow them away with your rockets.

Well, there you have it, all the ships so far. In the future I would like to add more paint jobs to each of them, but that will have to wait till I'm done with my break.

Until then, you can try out Volare right now, and give me some feedback. What do you like about the ships? What do you dislike? Is there something you want more of? Do you have any ship ideas? Leave a comment or send me a message on discord: knightofgod.

I hope you enjoy the game. God peace.
